Former Chiefs Dunta Robinson, Boomer Grigsby and Corey Mays are scheduled to join the four-day training session at Bowling Green State University on May 12-15, according to an NFL news release.

The program is one of many designed by the NFL Player Engagement to assist former and current players for a career after sports, according to Kimberly Fields, vice president of NFL Player Engagement.

“Our career development resources aim to prepare players for life after football,” Fields said in the statement. “The Sports Journalism & Communications Boot Camp assists players in honing the skills and building the relationships necessary to carry their sports knowledge into a new career.”

Among the skills worked on will surround “improving each player’s writing skills for newspapers, radio, and the expanding digital media industry,” according to the news release.

Additionally, media professionals such as sports writer Peter King of Sports Illustrated, NFL.com’s Bucky Brooks and CBS Sports analyst Solomon Wilcots, the latter two being former NFL players, are scheduled to be panelists and lead discussions on the wide variety of journalism subjects.

Bowling Green faculty will also assist the training, according to Dr. Terry Rentner, Professor, Department of Journalism & Public Relations.

“The feedback from players who participated last year was extremely positive, and we’re thrilled to be hosting the boot camp a second year,” Rentner said in the statement. “We have talented BGSU faculty who will share their expertise in digital media, journalism ethics and writing commentaries for both print and radio.”

The panel leaders will also hold breakout sessions and writing labs with the participants.
