KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Chiefs released the depth chart Monday afternoon for Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans at Arrowhead Stadium.

There are numerous tweaks from the preseason depth charts, including players moving to different positions.

The Chiefs now list rookie running back De’Anthony Thomas at the X position, or split end wide receiver.

The move offers a hint of how the Chiefs plan to use the versatile Thomas. The rookie remains listed at running back, but has dropped from third to fifth.

Frankie Hammond Jr. and Albert Wilson moved from the X position to the Z position, or flanker, while Dwayne Bowe serves a one-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

Additionally on offense, the Chiefs now list Jeff Allen at right tackle and Mike McGlynn atop the depth chart at left guard. Allen will hold down right tackle while Donald Stephenson serves a four-game suspension for violating the league’s policy on performance enhancing substances.

Defensively, Mike DeVito and Allen Bailey swapped sides, and Vance Walker is no longer listed as Dontari Poe’s backup. Walker is currently listed as Bailey’s backup.

Also of note at cornerbacks, Ron Parker is no longer listed atop the depth chart at right cornerback. Sean Smith appears to have reclaimed his starting job at that position. The Chiefs list Parker second at left cornerback behind Marcus Cooper.

Here’s how the depth chart shapes out:

OFFENSE

Wide receiver
“X” or split end
Donnie Avery, A.J. Jenkins, De’Anthony Thomas

NOTE: This marks the first appearance for Thomas listed as a wide receiver. The Chiefs listed him primarily at running back and punt returner on the preseason depth charts.

Left tackle Eric Fisher, Ryan Harris

NOTE: Harris is the swing tackle with double listings at left and right tackle.

Left guard Mike McGlynn, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif

NOTE: McGlynn, whom the Chiefs signed a day before the preseason finale, projects as the starter with Jeff Allen moving to right tackle.

Center Rodney Hudson, Eric Kush

NOTE: No change from the final preseason depth chart.

Right guard Zach Fulton, Jeff Linkenbach

NOTE: Linkenbach moves from left guard.

Right tackle Jeff Allen, Ryan Harris

NOTE: Allen will hold down the spot while Donald Stephenson serves a four-game suspension.

Tight end Anthony Fasano, Travis Kelce, Demetrius Harris

NOTE: No change from the final preseason depth chart.

Wide receiver
“Z” or flanker
Frankie Hammond Jr., Albert Wilson, Junior Hemingway

NOTE: No surprise with Hammond filling in as the starter for Dwayne Bowe, who serves a one-game suspension. Wilson moves from the X position, and Hemingway is now listed third.

Quarterback Alex Smith, Chase Daniel, Aaron Murray

NOTE: No change from the final preseason depth chart.

Running back Jamaal Charles, Knile Davis, Cyrus Gray, Joe McKnight, De’Anthony Thomas,

NOTE: Subtle change with Thomas now listed last from previously being listed third. But the Chiefs now listing Thomas at wide receiver offers a hint where he’ll likely see a majority of action.

Fullback  Anthony Sherman

NOTE: No change from the final preseason depth chart.

DEFENSE

Left defensive end Mike DeVito, Vance Walker

NOTE: DeVito moves from the right side, a position he played last season, while Walker moves from defensive tackle as the backup.

Nose tackle Dontari Poe, Damion Square

NOTE: Square, whom the Chiefs claimed off waivers Sunday from the Philadelphia Eagles, fills in as Poe’s backup. Walker can also play nose tackle.

Right defensive end Allen Bailey, Jaye Howard

NOTE: Bailey and Howard move from the left side. This swapping of sides for Bailey is curious because he mostly lined up on the left side throughout organized team activities (OTAs), minicamp, training camp and the preseason.

Left outside linebacker Justin Houston, Dee Ford, Frank Zombo

NOTE: No surprise with Ford being listed here since this is where he mostly lined up throughout OTAs, minicamp, training camp and the preseason.

Left inside linebacker Joe Mays, Josh Mauga

NOTE: Mauga will likely start the season opener with Mays out with a wrist injury.

Right inside linebacker Derrick Johnson, James-Michael Johnson

NOTE: No change from the final preseason depth chart.

Right outside linebacker Tamba Hali, Josh Martin

NOTE: Martin moves from the left side to right behind Hali.

Left cornerback Marcus Cooper, Ron Parker, Phillip Gaines

NOTE: Parker is no longer listed atop a depth chart, but he’ll see plenty of action.

Right cornerback Sean Smith, Chris Owens

NOTE: Smith assumes his spot as the starting right cornerback.

Strong safety Eric Berry, Daniel Sorensen

NOTE: No change from the final preseason depth chart.

Free safety Husain Abdullah, Kelcie McCray

NOTE: No change from the final preseason depth chart.

SPECIALISTS

Punter Dustin Colquitt

NOTE: No change from the final preseason depth chart.

Kicker Cairo Santos

NOTE: Santos supplanted Ryan Succop, who signed a one-year deal with the Tennessee Titans two days after his release.

Long snapper Thomas Gafford

NOTE: No change from the final preseason depth chart.

Punt returner De’Anthony Thomas, Frankie Hammond

NOTE: No change from the final preseason depth chart.

Kick returner Knile Davis, Frankie Hammond Jr., Joe McKnight, Albert Wilson

NOTE: Changes from the preseason depth charts, as Hammond is now second, McKnight third and Wilson moves to the bottom.
